How to handle a Content ID claim

  1. Don't panic: a claim is not a strike. Claims affect the video, usually not your channel. Owners can monetize, track, or block. YouTube Help
  2. Check the details in YouTube Studio: claimant, matched timestamps, policy.
  3. Try the library's own tool first: Uppbeat claim release, Envato Claim Clear, Epidemic safelisting, Pixabay license certificate (see each library page).
  4. Or edit it out: trim, mute, or replace the song with Audio Library music in Studio.
  5. Dispute only if you're sure you have the rights (license, misidentification, or an exception). Giving credit or not monetizing are NOT valid reasons. The claimant has 30 days to respond. YouTube Help
  6. Escalate to appeal is available for claims that block your video; claimant then has 7 days.
  7. Careful: if the claimant rejects your appeal they can file a takedown request, which can mean a copyright strike. Abusing disputes can bring penalties.
